e-Luminate #LoveLight2015 Campaign Stall

24th January 2015 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

| Free

For the participation of the Humanitarian Centre to the e-Luminate festival and in occasion of the UN International Year of Light 2015, we are organizing a campaign called #LoveLight2015.

It is composed of two parts. For the first part (pre festival) we will hold an information and action stall in the Grafton Centre on Saturday 24th January and in the Grand Arcade (date TBC).

The purpose of the campaign is to:

  • Raise awareness of the UN International Year of Light 2015,
  • Raise awareness of the e-Luminate Festival & Federica’s Installation in particular,
  • Open up the dialogue on issues to do with light and development,
  • Facilitate social action through encouraging individuals to pledge to engage in the issues surrounding light and sustainability,
  • Invite members of the public to write down on a whiteboard why light is important to them and take their pictures, which will be used to make a poster for the installation.

Pledges you can take will involve small actions such as switching off the light when you leave the room or talking to five of your friends about light and development topics. You are then encouraged to take pictures of yourselves carrying out your pledges to post on social media with the hashtag #LoveLight2015. There will be a competition out of all the photos posted, with the winner receiving a small prize.

The second part is for the festival and installation. We are collecting stories from our member organisations like EWB, Menelik education, Afrinspire, etc.. on the impact that light has on people’s lives around the world and how it can give access to possibilities and reduce inequalities. The best stories will be illustrated by artists students of university, mounted in marvellous footage and exhibited at our installation about light & development at the e-Luminate Cambridge Festival 2015. At the installation, the footage shall be played through energy generated from bikes, kindly supplied by Outspoken Cycles (sponsored by e-Luminate). Members of the public are invited to power the footage themselves by having a go on the bikes. This activity will allow you to see how much energy and effort it takes to create light in this case.

We look forward to seeing you at the Grafton Centre on Saturday 24th January!!
