Cambridge International Development Course
- About IDCs -

The International Development Courses are one day events that run in Oxford, Cambridge, Cardiff, Sussex and Durham with the aim of increasing awareness of development issues at Universities. The dates of the next courses and related events are shown below:

Durham International Development Course: 6th June 2008 (provisionally)
Cambridge International Development Course: 29th December 2008 (provisionally)

The Cambride Courses:

  • 8 pounds (inlcudes lunch and afternoon tea as well as post-event drinks).
  • The event is open to everyone. The December IDC, however, will be specifically designed as an introductory course, whereas the May IDC will not be confined to a single experience level.
  • Students from all subjects are welcome, particularly students from those departments that do not typically address development issues (e.g. Engineers, NatSci’s, Medics, Mathmo’s, Compsci’s…)
  • The IDC arose from a perceived gap in the education of some science students who are getting involved in development interventions in unfamiliar communities.
  • The vision was to get lecturers and development professionals to distil into a short course the crucial issues they think people should be aware of before getting involved in such interventions.

The IDC is a Humanitarian Centre initiative, in association with the following student groups:
Cambridge University International Development (CUID)
Engineers Without Borders (EWB)
Architecture Sans Frontieres (ASF)
Lawyers Without Borders (LWB)
Medical Students' International Network (MedSIN)
Cambridge University Student Aliances (CUSA)
Cambridge University South African Fund for Education (CUSAFE)
